Sears Hitches a Ride with Uber

In a competitive marketplace where products are commoditized and loyalty programs are ubiquitous, Uber sets it’self apart to drive the customer experiences to build real relationships by partnering with the Sears Holdings-owned Shop Your Way program to give retail rewards points to any customer using its service. Uber knows that real loyalty isn’t just created at the end of a ride, but at every touch point, before and after purchases.

“We’re always looking for new, innovative ways to make the Uber experience more rewarding for drivers and riders,” said David Richter, vice president of Business Development at Uber. “This agreement with Shop Your Way makes saving up for a needed household appliance or a shopping spree as easy as giving or taking a ride with Uber.”

Shop Your Way Rewards Program

From Sears perspective, it is hoping the Uber will make its rewards program more attractive to shoppers. According to Reuters, the Shop Your Way loyalty program accounted for 75 percent of the company’s sales through the first half of 2016. Partnering with a leading-edge brand like Uber can only figure to help increase the loyalty program’s popularity.

“Just as Uber uses technology to connect riders and drivers and revolutionized an industry, we’re using technology to surround our members with more opportunities to earn points and add value to their membership and experience, whether they’re in a store, online or on-the-go,” Sears Holdings’ Ms. Munjal said. “Shop Your Way is unique in that it is not just a rewards program but also a shopping marketplace and social shopping destination focused on creating the most rewarding shopping experience for members.

Uber riders and Driver Partners can now earn Shop Your Way points in multiple ways, including:

  • Uber Rider Rewards: Riders who link their Uber account to Shop Your Way at shopyourway.com/uber will have potential to receive unlimited Shop Your Way points, up to $2 in points for every trip with Uber. The Rider Rewards program is currently available in Chicago and New York City with a nationwide rollout to follow. As a special nationwide incentive, Shop Your Way members who sign up to ride with Uber for the first time will receive their first trip free, up to $15, and $5 in points.
  • Uber Driver Partner Rewards: New Driver Partners who sign up to drive with Uber atshopyourway.com/uber can earn up to $1,000 in Shop Your Way points*. Additionally, Uber and Shop Your Way will issue hundreds of thousands of dollars in Shop Your Way points to thousands of current Uber Driver Partners in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City and San Francisco who simply enroll in the program.
  • An Uber Preferred Maintenance Provider: Sears Auto Centers, with hundreds of locations nationwide, will serve as one of Uber’s Preferred Maintenance Providers for its fleet of drivers, offering exclusive discounts and points. Uber Driver Partners will receive 50 percent off all oil changes and 30 percent back in points on all labor at Sears Auto Centers.
